what is a deacon?

Deacons serve the Lord by leading the caring ministry of the church through benevolence work, visiting the sick, and being alert to the spiritual needs of the congregation.
This frees up the pastoral staff to focus on prayer and the ministry of the Word, promotes unity within the church, and facilitates the spread of the gospel.
